Dear Eliza*Beth,

I am sooooooooo glad that you finally talked to your mom.

Wow —— Your dad really needs to wake up and smell the stinkweeds! He sounds out of control!!!!!!! I remember once when my parents maxed out on their credit card. Of course, they only had one and they probably couldn’t charge as much on it as your dad can spend on his cards. Luke had lost one of his jobs and they borrowed on their card and then charged at the grocery store. The collection letters were really bad … and then the phone calls started. (Have you gotten any of the phone calls yet? … Pretty awful!!) Then Luke got a new job, but by that time they were really in debt and couldn’t figure out what to do. So they went to a special place that helps people learn how to budget, how to live without credit cards, and how to pay off debts. Maybe your parents should go to one of those places. If you want, I can ask my parents for the phone number.

More about my parents…. For their New Year’s resolutions, they’ve decided to go to college. (They will each take one class each semester at the community college and then eventually transfer to the state college. They’ll keep their jobs and go to school at night. We tried to figure it out. They’ll probably graduate from college when I do!!!!!!! * * * * * * * *NOW FOR THE REALLY BIG NEWS … THE INFORMATION THAT YOU’VE REQUESTED* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

NEW YEAR’S EVE … NEW YEAR’S EVE … NEW YEAR’S EVE …

THE DRESS — MY FIRST REALLY GROWN-UP ONE … black, long, scoop neck. (Barb only let me buy it because we could cut it shorter after New Year’s and I could wear it as a regular dress for special occasions.) Luke looked at me when I came downstairs, then he groaned and said, “My little girl is growing up too fast, and I want that scoop neck covered with a scarf, a shawl, a suit of armor.” I think he’s having trouble with the fact that I’ve actually got boobs now. (Remember when we stuck your mom’s shoulder pads on our chests and pretended that we had breasts?) I wore my peacock feather earrings, painted my nails purple with silver sparkles, and wore my glitter Doc Martens. (I got them on sale.)

THE PLACE … Glory and Tory Hancock’s house. Oh, Elizabeth … they’re twins … identical twins … brown hair, blue eyes. You can tell them apart because Glory has a scar over her left eyebrow. (She got it falling off a swing.) And you’ll never believe this…. Their mother is also a twin AND her twin lives next door with her twin sons (Jerry and Terry Mallowen, who are also in our seventh-grade class).
